“Take Me Far and Away”
“Take Me Far and Away”

Terrace of the incomparable Pensione Bencista
Since returning from Italy on September 14 life has been in the fast lane. Now that I am through with Outdoor Art Shows for 2019 and am at home for the next two months I have time to reflect and share about the Paint in Tuscany 2019 Workshop I planned and led, and want to share the paintings I made during that time. We spent the first four nights in Fiesole at the Pensione Bencista, one of my very favorite places in Italy. I have been going there for over twenty years and never tire of it.

Villa Medici in Fiesole
Nearby is the magnificent Villa Medici, which is privately owned. For the second time I was lucky enough to paint on location there, this time with some of my group of intrepid Plein air painters. It was a highlight of the trip. Click Here to see details about my piece “Take Me Far and Away” which epitomizes the expansive and dreamy influence of the Tuscan landscape. It is a full sheet watercolor, 22.5” x 30” and was painted directly on location without any pencil drawing. My painting really flowed that day and I felt in the zone. The heat, the silence, and the beckoning and expansive view really come across in this painting and it felt good to make it.
